I got married on Saturday, June 2nd, and by the time you read this, I will be in Venice on my honeymoon! My partner Nick proposed to me in January, but planning a wedding in under 6 months isn’t as hard as you think. I always thought I wanted a ‘20s or ‘60s style wedding but I opted for something much more classic and bridal - I even had a veil! My best friend cried when I walked out of the fitting room in my dress, so that’s when I knew I’d found ‘The One’. It’s a vintage ‘50s, floor-length, white strapless bridal dress that I bought at a sample sale. Since I joined THE OUTNET, I’ve become a dedicated discount shopper. The mood of the ceremony was very different compared with the evening reception, so I wore my dress with a vintage lace jacket for day and an embellished Jenny Packham belt for night. I know a lot of people buy two dresses but, with clever accessories, you can make one dress look very different.

Three of my best friends from school were my bridesmaids (one of them made my wedding cake!). I had planned to buy different bridesmaids’ dresses for my wedding, as it’s a modern approach and a great way to reflect their personalities and flatter different silhouettes. Once again, I defied my original plan and, after much searching, bought three identical By Malene Birger dresses from THE OUTNET. They’re dusty pink, empire-line dresses that are vintage in style.

One of the things I was most looking forward to was seeing friends and family in all their finery. It’s never too early to plan your wedding guest outfit. Colors don’t have to be soft and pretty (you can leave that to the bride), so opt for bold brights which are refreshing and emulate the joyous mood. Don’t feel you have to buy a dress - trousers and shorts are fast becoming the modern cocktail attire of choice! One of my top tips is to invest in a beautiful evening jacket, as you can wear this again and dress it down with jeans and a tee for daytime chic.

My top tips for wedding shopping:
• Take someone with you who has different taste to yours – you’ll be more open to trying on wedding dresses you’d never usually consider.
• Don’t always stick to white. Pastel hues are just as suitable for weddings and are key Spring/Summer trends.
• Buy the most fabulous pair of wedding shoes. Blow your budget on these! You’ll be able to wear these again and again, whereas a wedding dress is often worn just once.
• Don’t forget the power of accessories! Textured jackets, lace belts and flowers worn in the hair can transform your look effortlessly from day to night and work for different venues.
• Look to Ready-To-Wear designers. Not everyone wants a traditional gown, and it’s best to dress according to the venue, location and climate of the wedding.
• Don’t be too trend-driven. Always remember when choosing your dress that you never want to look back at your wedding photographs and feel you look dated.
• Weddings are costly, so be open minded about discount sites such as THE OUTNET. If you’re shopping or browsing online, make sure you register to the websites so you receive emails about new arrivals and follow brands or labels you love on Twitter or Facebook. Items sell out fast when you’re shopping discount, so subscribers and fans are usually the first to be notified about arrivals and sample sales!
• If you have lots of bridesmaids, mix it up! Stick to a theme but ensure each dress has a point of difference and will make them look their best.
• Opt for bold, statement jewelry or a trilby as modern alternatives to the fascinator.
